Spring clean for Udny Green – May 2017

Volunteers prepare to begin the Udny Green spring clean

Udny Green volunteers gave the village a spring clean on Saturday (May 13), coordinated by Udny Community Trust.

About a dozen helpers collected litter, mainly from paths, wooded areas and road verges.

After their hard work the volunteers were rewarded with bacon rolls and fine pieces from McGregor’s Hattoncrook Deli, served up in the Dr Spence Memorial Hall.

The village tidy was supported by PUT Community SCIO, Pitmedden First Responders and Aberdeenshire Council’s Trade Waste Team, who provided litter pickers.

Most of the litter was collected from the roadside verges and well-used paths rather than the village centre.

However, there was still more than enough to make for a busy morning.

Village residents have also been expressing concern about an increased level of dog-fouling recently.

Udny Community Trust Development Officer Eleanor Morris commented: “Udny Green is a lovely and well looked after place but like many other communities litter and dog-fouling can be a problem.

“The village clean-up is now an annual event and while it doesn’t tackle dog-fouling directly it does show the community spirit of local people who want to keep the village looking its best for everyone.”

The Udny Green clean-up followed the successful spring clean that was held in Pitmedden last month.

Over 20 local volunteers helped out despite the chilly weather.
